Tianjin is gearing up to hold the second national skills competition scheduled from Sept 16 to 19, with preparations currently underway. The event aims to encourage youth to learn vocational skills and create a more friendly environment by respecting skilled workers.

The competition will feature 63 events, allowing candidates to vie for a spot in the 47th World Skills in Lyons, France in 2024, with events encompassing cybersecurity and cloud computing. Another 46 State-level events will be incorporated into the competition.

More than 4,000 individuals have registered for the competition, a 60 percent increase the first session held in Guangzhou, Guangdong province in 2020.

"Organizing the skills competition is of great importance to the production of skilled talent," said Wang Xiaojun, deputy director of the vocational capability department of the ministry.

She emphasized that the skills competition serves as an excellent platform for learners and workers, embodying the nation's spirit of craftsmanship.

According to the National Development and Reform Commission (NDRC), there are currently over 10,000 vocational colleges and more than 30 million students enrolled in vocational education in China.

Tianjin, being a national demonstration zone for modern vocational education reform and innovation, possesses unique advantages in terms of its geographical location, industries, and educational resources.
