Newly-refurbished centenary mansion in Tianjin opens to public

Tianjin Prince Zhuang's Mansion, also known as the"Little Forbidden City of Tianjin," has been renovated and is now open to the public.

Covering a floor area of approximately 20,000 square meters and a building area of approximately 4,080 square meters, it is the largest building of the Qing Dynasty (1644-1911) in Tianjin. It is also the only known Qing Dynasty-style complex outside of Beijing.

It is said that Jiangxi governor Li Chun purchased part of the Beijing Qingzhuang Prince Mansion and rebuilt it in Tianjin with the original material between 1914 to 1924.

It consists of three courtyards and a South Park, including a brick screen wall, a stone tower-like memorial archway, an octagonal ornamental column, a stone tablet guarding a tomb passage, a single-hole arch bridge, among other features. The interior of the hall with magnificent decoration is well preserved.

The mansion possesses important historical and scientific research value. It was identified by the State Council as a key cultural and historical heritage site under State protection in 2013.

The Second Academy of the Scenic Spot is an intangible cultural heritage area in Tianjin. It displays the achievements of intangible cultural heritage relics in Tianjin through exhibition boards, physical objects and audio-visual forms.

Located at No. 82 of Baidi Road, Nankai district, it is flanked by Tianjin University and Nankai University, a pair of hundred-year-old universities.
