Chinese New Year Travel: Domestic tourism sees strong revival during holiday

China's tourism has seen strong revival during the holiday, with a total of 308 million domestic tourist visits across the country. CGTN's Bi Ran has more.

Chinese tourists' passion was on full display during the week-long Spring Festival holiday. Hundreds of millions of people decided to go traveling or sightseeing in the past week. The tourism market is seeing a strong revival."

China has recorded 308 million domestic tourist visits during the seven-day Spring Festival holiday, up 23.1 percent year on year, recovered to 88.6 percent for the same period in 2019, according to the Ministry of Culture and Tourism.

Meanwhile, domestic tourism revenue reached 375.84 billion yuan, up 30 percent year-on-year.

Many cities and towns across the country held a variety of themed activities, such as gigantic lantern shows, live performances, and traditional folk arts exhibitions.

Shopping festivals are being held in the municipalities of Shanghai and Chongqing, while northeast provinces of Jilin and Heilongjiang have launched campaigns to promote ice-and-snow tourism.

Data shows that there were over 9000 performances hosted during the holiday week nationwide, up by 40.92 percent from previous year, earning a total profit of over 54.9 million U.S. dollars. Bi Ran, CGTN, Beijing.
