CBA Roundup: Tianjin smashes Royal Fighters in overtime, Guangdong overwhelms Sichuan
ZHUJI, China, Jan. 16 (Xinhua) -- The Tianjin Pioneers beat the Beijing Royal Fighters in overtime 122-106, while the Guangdong Southern Tigers smashed the Sichuan Blue Whales 119-99 in the 27th round of the 2022-2023 Chinese Basketball Association (CBA) league regular season here on Monday.
The Royal Fighters swallowed their fourth consecutive loss after a one-sided overtime. Royal Fighter's Mr. bigshot Zhang Fan nailed a 3-pointer to tie the game at the buzzer, but the team later messed things up as they let the Pioneers score 21 points in overtime.
Yu Changdong led the Royal Fighters with 25 points and 16 rebounds, while Zhang Fan added 22 points. On Tianjin's side, David James pocketed a game-high 29 points, and Lin Tingqian added 27 and dished 16 assists.
James gave a big shoutout to his team as Tianjin only had a"crazy" three turnovers in the whole game, he also praised his side's tenacity:"After he (Zhang Fan) hit that shot at the buzzer to put the game into overtime, we could like kind of folded, but we stayed together as a team and we made a good run."
In another game, Marshon Brooks scored 30 points to lead Guangdong to cruise past Sichuan. Zhang Hao, Guangdong's up-and-coming young forward took 13 points and grabbed four rebounds in 25 minutes appearance. On Sichuan's side, Marlain Veal had a double-double of 16 points and 15 assists, and Zuo Zhennian added 18 points.
Elsewhere, the Zhejiang Golden Bulls beat the Nanjing Monkey Kings 125-112, the Liaoning Flying Leopards thrashed the Jilin Northeast Tigers 116-88 and the Fujian Sturgeons stunned the Beijing Ducks 103-88.
